Street meets beach:

California surf lifestyle apparel brand combines

surf and urban design for a bold new look for 2016

Citizen Ciao to launch new web ‘concierge’ service

Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA (Sept. 23, 2015) Taking surf to the streets, Los Angeles based lifestyle streetwear apparel brand – Citizen Ciao – ramps up for 2016 with bold new colors and looser cuts, as the brand continues to combine surf lifestyle with urban inner street – embracing its true design philosophy of street meets beach.

“Our new collection will debut early March 2016, and we will be really diving in and expressing who we are as a brand with design,” said Founder and Brand Creative Director Roby Turner. “With more of an urban street design style, the cuts are a little larger, longer and loose fitting.”

The 2016 designs and styles are more aligned with the Citizen Ciao brand theme than ever before, said Turner. Blending high-quality fabrics with clean, bold designs, the traditional surf apparel is infused with contemporary street fashion. “We’ve added more bold colors, like the use of electric blues, which expresses the ocean waters, as well as traditional whites and blacks,” Turner explains. “You’ll have to wait and see the rest of the collection in our Spring/Summer 2016 Campaign that we’re shooting in Los Angeles next month.”

“For our citizens, comfort and a good fit is important, so we want them to have a chance to see, feel, and try on our clothing and make sure it’s right for them,” said Turner. “We also have a variety of limited and exclusive items available on the website.” Citizen Ciao was founded on the idea of creating men’s and women’s surf apparel, with an edgy, urban attitude. The brand’s creative approach represents the diverse and multicultural evolution of the LA surf and beach scene. Offering surf and skate lifestyle apparel, such as t-shirts, long-sleeve tees, hats, shorts, flip-flops, sweatshirts, bags and more, the Citizen Ciao brand is always leaning over the edge, looking for the next shift in the surf+skate+urban community’s desires and needs.

According to Turner, the citizens of the new surf culture are diverse and multicultural, have a conscious lifestyle, and love the beach culture. They follow the beat of their own drum, are uniquely creative, bold, youthful and adventurous citizens who are all connected in exploring and striving toward their passions in life. These individuals don’t necessarily abide by the typical rhythm of life; they are nontraditional and non-governed and live life far outside the box. Turner is a former accomplished model with a long-time interest in fashion and design. His dream was to launch his brainchild – an apparel brand inspired by Southern California’s surf culture, adding the edge and attitude of the skate-kid and global urban scenes.

To enhance the customers’ brand experience, Citizen Ciao will launch an all-new service called Self Concierge,” starting this October. From the main menu of the website, customers can select a package of items to preview for 10 days. If they want to keep the items, the credit card on file will be charged. If not, they can return the items to Citizen Ciao within the 10-day period, free of charge. Shipping is free both ways and the customer only pays for what they keep.

But creating a great apparel brand wasn’t enough. Turner wanted to give back to the community along the way. So he volunteers his time, and leverages his company, to raise the awareness level of a cause he is very passionate about – Project Hope Alliance. The philanthropy exists to end family homelessness through exceptional education and financial stability. The programs funded by the Project Hope Alliance eliminate the barriers homeless students experience that prevent them from attending and succeeding in school, and increase family stability by moving homeless families into permanent housing. For every item sold at www.citizenciao.com, generous proceeds go toward “PROJECT HOPE” at www.projecthopealliance.org.

“Giving back is a part of who we are,” said Turner. “We want everyone to be a citizen and enjoy the best of life and pursue their passions.”

Biography:

Roby Turner, Founder and Creative Director of Brand, Citizen Ciao

When Turner decided to launch his brand – Citizen Ciao – to an urban market in 2014, he consulted with friend, fashion-industry guru, fellow Detroiter and Cass Technician Shawn Ward of Shane+Shawn and RoosxShane&Shawn. The collaboration was organic, and they began to position the label as a leading lifestyle surf street wear brand in the market. With Turner’s vision, an all-new culture – the new surf – and its citizens were born.

For Roby Turner, living in two worlds, and traveling around it, has created a foundation for his life passion – creating a lifestyle apparel brand that combines surf culture with street fashion – and his brainchild, Citizen Ciao.

Born and raised in Detroit, Turner graduated from Cass Technical High School and Michigan State University with a marketing degree and obtained a MBA. Straight out of college, Turner began his career in fashion as a runway and print model living in New York City, Cape Town, South Africa, and worked around the world with renowned designers, such as Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. With a long interest in fashion and design, once he was finished with modeling, Turner settled down in Los Angeles, California to embrace his other love – the beach. He decided to follow his dream of launching an apparel brand inspired by Southern California’s surf culture. Immediately, he understood the passion that lived within the surf culture, but felt that the market was very saturated with the mainstream, all-American marketing strategy. Thus, the idea to launch a brand in Los Angeles, born out of the surf culture, but adding the urban edge and attitude of the skate customer, ended with the formation of Citizen Ciao.
